Dollar Bill Dispenser

Last Christmas, Trevor and I had great fun making bars of soap with coins embedded in them as gifts for his cousins. When I give a gift of money, whenever possible I try to do something interesting with it. For my latest attempt, I made a Dollar Bill Dispenser. I started by taping 32 dollar bills end-to-end.

Then I rolled them up.

I cut a slit in a cardboard tube and painted the whole thing purple.

I slid the roll of money into the tube with the end sticking out of the slit. Then I taped a PULL tab to the end.

I rolled the last bit of money in so it wasn't visible.

The last step was wrapping the tube with tissue paper. I cut a slit so that the PULL tab stuck out, then used tulle to tie the ends closed so that the roll of money couldn't escape.

Once it was all wrapped up, I was nervous that it would get caught up and not come out of the tube smoothly. I really wanted to test it out, but that would have meant rewrapping the whole thing, so I just crossed my fingers. Fortunately, it worked beautifully and Courteney was delighted with her gift.

I can't wait to make another of these! Of course, it's going to have to be for someone who doesn't read my blog...

I wanted to stop by and thank you for the lovely comment you left on my final Moxie Fab World blog post. I had such an incredibly good time in the Moxie Fab World, and I'm *so glad* I got to know you there! Hugs and loves to you, my moxie fab friend! :)

  2. Oh Em Gee!!! This is a FANTASTIC idea!!! I am TOTALLY making these for my nephews this Christmas! Since they are getting to be teenagers, it's getting harder to buy for them ... no more toys or games, definitely not clothes ... I've given them gift cards for the book store, art supplies and even Williams Sonoma, since one of them enjoys cooking. They will LOVE this!! Thank you SO much for this amazing idea!!! ;)

  6. Hi Cindy! I LOVE this idea and will definitely be giving this a try next chance I get. Any suggestions for a clever way to give a gift card? We're going to a 5th grade boy's bday party next week.
PS-it was so nice meeting you last week over in Amador County.

  7. LOVE this and pinning it! Super fun idea and I love how it turned out, Any trouble with removing the tape and not damaging the bills? That's my only hesitation. I'm thinking washi or masking tape might be more bill friendly.

    1. I taped two dollar bills together the day a couple days ahead of time, waited, and then removed the tape to make sure it wouldn't be damaged. It was fine, but I think using washi tape is an even better idea!

  12. Hey, I pinned this yesterday and that pin has already been repinned 67 times. Who knows how many times each of those were repinned. This was such an awesome idea and perfect timing to post this before the holidays. :).

  13. Hi Izzy, This is an awesome idea. I was wondering if 32 dollars was all the roll could handle? Or could more be used? Thank you

    1. I'm guessing you found this from Izzy's Pinterest board! This is Cindy. :) To answer your question, the roll can definitely hold more than 32 dollars. I'm not sure what the maximum is. I should test that out!
