Bunny Week, Day 4: Naptime

Rabbits are social creatures. In the wild, they live in groups of around 12 and will bond closely with each other. Pet rabbits are equally social and bond with each other. In homes with only one rabbit (like ours), the rabbit bonds closely with the humans.

Trouble likes to be around us. Not all the time and only on his terms, of course, but he likes to be where we are. Steve and I both work from home, but until recently, Trouble wasn't allowed in either of our office spaces. (Rabbits and electrical cords do not mix.) He would pull on the baby gate to let us know he wanted attention, but he couldn't just hang out while we worked. Until Steve bunny-proofed my office space. Thick cord covers and a few other tweaks mean that Trouble can hang out with me all day if he wants. And he often does. Because rabbits are crepuscular, Trouble often naps at my feet as I work. It is as adorable as it sounds.

Not all of Trouble's naps are by my feet. He often follows me downstairs at lunchtime or when I refill my tea, then chooses a downstairs nap location. The picture on the right shows him napping on the second floor of his Cottontail Cottage. As I type this, he's asleep in his pear box in our dining room. Adorable.

  2. Cute layout and, funny... rabbits sound a lot like pigs. Hamlet always wants to be near us ... actually lying next to us (as in we're lying down too) and belly rubs are a bonus... but as long as he's near us he's happy. When he gets bored he gets destructive (not because he's bad but because their nature is to explore, root, and chew/eat) so we have to keep a close eye on him.
My favorite moments are cuddling w/ him!
Trouble is adorable!!! BTW - I don't know if I ever mentioned it but I had a rabbit when I was a little girl, but I didn't know how to take care of him and my mom wasn't big on animals, so I don't think he lasted long :(
